Unfortunately, a dead badger was found along the Amalfi State Road 163. The discovery was made this morning, August 24th, in Maiori, near the construction site for the safety of the rocky cliff, after the fire in the Capo D’Orso pine forest.
Throughout the Italian territory, badgers are protected animals thanks to Law No. 157 of February 11th, 1992, on wildlife. It is therefore prohibited to kill, capture, hold or trade badger specimens. Unfortunately, a badger was found dead along the Amalfi State Road 163. The discovery was made this morning, August 24th, in Maiori, near the construction site for the safety of the rocky cliff, after the fire in the Capo D’Orso pine forest. Badgers are omnivorous animals that feed at night, preferring large larvae, earthworms, snails, eggs, small mammals, birds, herbs, bulbs, and fruit. It probably found itself in difficulty during the fire of the past weeks and must have descended to the valley in search of food due to the destruction of its natural habitat to which it was accustomed, ending up on the road and being hit by an unaware vehicle. The veterinary service of the competent Local Health Authority has been alerted for removal.
