Atrani. Urgency to carry out consolidation interventions on the slopes.

Stones are falling from the rocky slope of Mount Civita, which overlooks the west side of Atrani.

Yesterday afternoon, some residents in the upper area of Atrani reported to the local police the presence of rocky material on Via Carmine, near the church of S. Michele Fuori le Mura, on the border with Ravello, the area where the detachments occurred.

This episode draws attention to the urgency of carrying out structural works for the prevention and mitigation of hydrogeological risk, which were considered urgent already after the flood in 2010 but have never been fully implemented. Among these, the consolidation of the two rocky slopes within which the village is located; for this intervention, vital to protect the inhabited area of Atrani from the effects of landslides, funding was allocated at the time, which now is no longer sufficient due to the increase in the prices of the planned works. In August, the Municipality of Atrani requested additional funding of 1.2 million euros from the competent authorities, in addition to the initially planned amount, in order to carry out complete interventions on both slopes.

The road, which will remain closed pending further inspections to verify the stability of the slope, which falls within the territory of Ravello, and the need for any urgent safety works, is essential both for the residents living in the area and for the many hiking enthusiasts who walk it every day. The negative effects on livability and tourism, therefore, are expected to be significant.
