Capodrise – Francesco Plumitallo, accused of strangling his mother, will appear before the Court of Assizes of Santa Maria Capua Vetere on February 13th. According to the experts, Francesco Plumitallo was completely mentally ill at the time of the crime.
Dr. Alessandra Grammatica, Judge for Preliminary Investigations at the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, after the probative incident (and the psychiatric evaluation) in the trial against Francesco Plumitallo, a 30-year-old from Capodrise who confessed to strangling his mother Patrizia Lombardi Vella, 55, also known as Rosa, has accepted the request for immediate judgment from the Public Prosecutor, Dr. Giacomo Urbano, for the young man.
The hearing is scheduled for February 13th before the Court of Assizes. During the probative incident, the expert appointed by the Judge, psychiatrist Dr. Raffaele Sperandeo, was heard first, followed by the defense psychiatrist consultant, Dr. Giovanni D’Angelo, and together they concluded that the 30-year-old had completely lacked the capacity to understand and intend at the time of the crime due to total mental illness. The request for the psychiatric evaluation had been made by Francesco Plumitallo’s defense attorneys, Raffaele and Gaetano Crisileo, during the validation hearing of his arrest.
Currently, Francesco is being held under supervision in the psychiatric ward of the Sammaritano prison.
For the record, the bloodshed occurred early in the morning on Tuesday, November 14th, in an apartment in the Vella family’s building on Via Santa Maria degli Angeli. According to Francesco’s version, he was having breakfast with his mother. He then approached her, as if to hug her, and then strangled her from behind. When they both fell to the ground, he caressed her. He himself then called the police and his uncle, priest Don Gianni Vella. Francesco Plumitallo later confessed to the Public Prosecutor, Dr. Giacomo Urbano, and Dr. Alessandra Grammatica.
He described the scene, of which he remembered almost nothing, as a moment of frenzy in which he had not taken the medication prescribed by the Mental Health Center of Marcianise and had completely lost control.
